Healing Properties of Soup!

We all associate the Fall/Winter season with the cold/flu season.  And while washing your hands and staying rested will do a lot to keep you healthy there is one old-fashioned treatment that is found all over the world – SOUP!

Many common ingredients in soup are loaded with healing properties.  Garlic and onions have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.  Thyme has drying effects that can help lessen congestion.  The broth itself can be loaded with calcium and other minerals depending on the base.  In a spicier broth cayenne and turmeric or curry can all offer increased circulation and pain reduction, as well as helping to clear nasal congestion.
Soups are easy to digest and a warm meal in the winter is always tasty, whether you are sick or not!

And here the Mighty Boosh sing a song dedicated to soup!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xDKt82kgzY
